Cologne Week 2, Sunday

This morning I went to Starbucks to get some internet and then met Julie there to work on our report for class.  We decided to do our project on Venice, Italy.  We chose Venice because Professor Mainka is absolutely in love with it.  He said “If only there was a place in the world that had the food of France, the drink of Germany, and the beauty of Italy.  That place is Venice.”  He continually refers to it as the best city in the world.  So we decided we would do that as our presentation.  We could choose anything to talk about, as long as it was in German.

After that, we met some other people at Hohestrasse and walked down the shopping strip, just window shopping.  I also got a pretzel and two berliners on the street.  MMMMmmmm.  On the way, I also got a picture with Chewbacca and some storm troopers!

After that we decided to take a walk across the Hohenzollern Bridge over the Rhein to the other side of Köln that we hadn’t seen yet.  On the bridge, there are millions of locks attached to the gate stretching all the way across.  When sweethearts get married in Cologne, they engrave their names on the locks, lock them on the gate, and throw the key in the river.

When we got to the other side, we walked along the river in the Rhein Park.  This stretch along the river is known for being very romantic.  Even in the afternoon, we saw couples openly making out on the river bank.  There was also a big toy train in the park that you can ride.  It was pretty cool.

After getting back to the hostel, I had a much needed 3 hour Skype date with Janie.  My neighbor Fred from Dublin, Ireland whom I met a few days earlier stopped by and complimented Janie for her prettiness and for her great teeth.  The UK is notorious for bad teeth.

After our skype date, I worked on homework for a little bit before going to bed.
